Host: Dr. E is known for minimally invasive surgery. What are the advantages of minimally invasive surgery?

Doctor: We make small stab incisions, and our instruments are designed so that we are already within the bone when we pass through the incision. This leaves the tissues surrounding the bunion intact. With a traditional incision, we have to go through the deeper tissues. I avoid that by making a small stab incision and cutting within the bone, which can mean very little pain or swelling.

The same principle can apply to neuroma surgery. I can make a small incision and release some of the ligaments without removing the neuroma. The goal is fewer aftereffects and a faster recovery.
